Standard guides are built to ensure performance and reliability, thanks to the use of quality materials and controlled production processes.
For pillars and bushes we use 20MnCr5 and 16MnCr5, case hardening steels which, properly heat treated and used in the right conditions, guarantee millions of closures to your molds.
Sometimes, however, working conditions require different materials and tolerances to increase sliding speed or heat and fatigue resistance.
For example, this is the case of the ball cages. The hardness of steel balls and the reduced contact surface on the pillar would create problems to a case hardened surface. Therefore, our pillars (ECO-4, ECO-5, ECO-7) for ball cages use are surface hardened at 60-63HRC. The hardening thickness varies according to diameter, but is always more than one millimeter.
On request, we build pillars and bushes in special steels.
For example, high heat resistance steels, such as 1.2344, heat-treated with a nitriding process to increase the hardness of the sliding surfaces.
