The New ONE*-E All-Electric Injection Molding Machine from LS Mtron Features Fast Speeds, Precise Control

Machine is Ideal for High Speed, Thinwall Molding; Will be Shown for First Time at PLASTEC West, Anaheim, California, April 12-14, Hirate America, Inc. Booth 3911

Peachtree Corners, GA (January 10, 2022) . . . The ONE*-E is a new, all-electric injection molding machine from LS Mtron that features a new toggle-link design for fast, best-in-class speeds (1.49 second dry cycle times).

The ONE*-E is ideal for high-cavitation, high-speed, and thinwall molding typical in packaging and medical part applications.  It is also Industry 4.0 ready, offering users LS Mtron’s CSI monitoring and control software for retrieving and controlling data.

This new line of machines is currently available in five sizes (120, 140, 190, 310, and 390 US tons), and LS Mtron plans to introduce four additional models later this year. They achieve fast cycles and more precise molding due to the implementation of a new, optimized toggle mechanism.  This allows a 30% faster link speed ratio and an industry-leading dry cycle time of just 1.49 seconds. In addition, the ONE*-E features an overall smaller footprint, reduced 172mm overall from the size of the existing model, from 5453x1499x1853 to 5281x1495x1800.

The ONE*-E features a highly rigid, one-piece casting structure that provides enhanced durability and precise injection control.  This reduces not only the vibration (shock) of the machines, but also shortens the injection acceleration time for thinwall molding by almost 4x, from 78ms to just 20ms. It also reduced the rotator inertia by 74% through a low inertia design.

“We are very excited about this new line of machines and the capabilities they provide,” said Peter Gardner, Business Director at LS Injection Molding Machine North America.  “We can now offer molders a world-class, alternative all-electric, high performance machine that is ideal for high outputs and fast cycle times.  It’s a perfect solution for thinwall molding, packaging and medical parts.”

A full-size ‘iPad’ type 18.5” standard (21.5” option) touch screen with swipe, pinch and zoom functionality shortens the time of complex processes and improves product reproducibility. It also improves consumer convenience by applying a user-friendly interface configuration and AI molding solution through automatic weight control software.

In addition, the ONE*-E allows not only fast opening and closing actions but also performs several functions such as monitoring of clamp force by a tie bar sensor (OPT), automatic calibration of clamping force, automatic zero-point adjustment mode for a spring mold, and optimized control of clamping force. The Dual Center Press Die structure minimizes the deformation of the die plate and also enhances the distribution of surface pressure in the mold, helping to extend mold life.

Moreover, the grafting of digital load cells improves not only the measurement control cycle but also the reproducibility through high-speed/high-level pressure control. It also provides reduced friction by employing the LM guide in the driving section of injection, thereby having implemented excellent acceleration and precision control.

This product accomplishes several advantages, including:

– Minimized deviation through precise injection pressure and charging control,

– Increased the encoder resolution of servo motor from 17 bits to 20 bits,

– Enhanced the response performance to the drive control frequency by 3.7 times,

– Shortened the cycle of Ethernet communication by 2 times.

HMI Updates

The specifications of the ONE*-E were upgraded in order to improve the performance and convenience for users and HMI processing was done by using the existing single-core CPU as a main. The product newly employed the next-generation dual-core CPU and separated the architecture into main and HMI CPUs, thereby improving CPU load and adding various modes.

The modes added include:

-clamp force optimization mode,

-clamping high-speed low-vibration profile mode,

-high-speed injection mode,

-packing (or holding) pressure pattern selection mode, and

-residual pressure elimination mode in case of charging completion.

In addition, significant improvement was achieved in terms of user convenience through additional functions such as PDF viewer, graphic mode configuration function, maintenance notification function, and power monitoring function.

About LS Mtron Injection Molding Machines

LS Mtron Injection Molding Machines is a division of LS Corporation, a $30 billion USD conglomerate of companies that was founded by South Korean-based tech giant LG Corporation.

LS Mtron IMM was borne out of the Injection Molding Machinery needs of LG Corporation, one of the world’s largest plastic molders. LS Mtron produces up to 2,800 machines per year, not only for use by its own related companies (LG Electronics, LG Appliances, LS Automotive, LG Solar, etc.), but for many other molders around the world.

In the USA, LS Mtron Injection Molding Machines is led by Peter Gardner, Business Director.  The company’s US headquarters are in Peachtree Corners, GA (near Atlanta), and its Tech Center is in Wood Dale, IL (near Chicago).
